I am alive AND I have spawned!
It's been over two years, man. I don't even know how or where to start. Most people on my flist probably don't even remember me, and hey, man, no offense taken, because I probably don't remember you either! Several of you have sent me nudges over the years, and every time I saw one of those, I felt a weird combination of warm fuzziness and damning guilt. It's truly heartwarming to know you still think of me and maybe even miss me, but I felt terrible for not responding to your nudge, or at least letting you know that yes, I'm still alive. I've meant many times to come back to this journal, but the time and conditions weren't right. It's not worth relating the long (and fairly boring, actually) story of why.

But now they are, and so I return. And I have multiplied! The most important thing is that my husband and I welcomed our first child, Meghan, on March 22, 2008. I'm sure I will post lots more about her in the future, but suffice it to say that her smile is my morning sunshine, even when I'm groggy and crabby from the million times she woke me up at night. :)

I've been disconnected from HP fandom itself for a while, and that's probably a good thing. I can't say I regret having missed the craziness surrounding Deathly Hallows; I read the book once, but that was about it. I owe the whole series a reread, actually. Anyway, fandom sort of corrupted me for a while, and I think I lost track of the source of my love for the series. I think I want to get back into it now, but on my own terms. I started out in fandom at The Sugar Quill because I wanted to explore the characters and the world more through genfic, by looking at other characters' experiences and points of views and by imagining the stories that JKR didn't show us, but were lurking in her periphery. I also wanted to improve my writing, and The Sugar Quill had a mandatory beta process.

And then somehow it all (that is, fandom, or at least the majority of my degree of participation in it) turned into shipping and wank and slash, and I guess I'm just done with it all. I want to go back to my roots. I'll keep the crack, though. The crack is always good.

I didn't stop writing, though. RPGs are actually a great way to explore characterization, learn from others' writing, and practice quick replies to prompts. And mine is multifandom, so it's been fun getting exposed to other canons, working with crossovers, and, most importantly, promulgating the crack. :)

Anyway, so here I am. Now that I'm a stay-at-home mom (and STILL working on finishing up that damn grad degree!), I intend to use some of that time to return to fandom -- and to journaling in general; I've missed it. It's hard with a demanding four-and-a-half-month-old, but there is time now that she actually naps on her own in the crib (as opposed to only on my lap!).

I won't be offended if my journal ain't your cup of tea anymore, but for those of you who stick around, I'm looking forward to getting to know each other again. I really have missed you. :)

It's not read-only yet, as far as I know, but heading that way. From what I hear, most of the staff have dropped off and it's only Zsenya and Madam Pince left now. :( What it really needs is someone who can fix the PHP problem in the database.

I'm really happy the intestinal condition is better, especially now you have a baby. And it must be especially nice to breastfeed when you think it might not have been possible.

I just bought my own flat in Gloucester, I have a permanent job, doing pretty well on the life front, really. :) But I am feeling a bit lonely for the first time, would like a boyfriend.

Oh, man, that is so sad. Did Arabella actually leave? How about all of the people who were modding the forums and betaing -- they're all gone, too??? There's gotta be someone who can work out the PHP problem...or maybe if they moved things to another server? Heh, you know what, don't mind me -- I have ZERO idea what I'm talking about now!

Yay for your own flat and a good job! I'm sure the guy will come in time. I actually met my husband on Match.com, and that's also how my brother met his wife, so you could always look there! :P

Arabella is engaged and is concentrating on her own original fiction. It's not like she's properly left but the Quill isn't her top priority like it once was. Most of the mods seems to have disappeared, yes, apart from nundu, but the betas are still active.

I'm a bit wary of internet dating, no offence to you or your brother. ^^;

Awww, well, good for Arabella! I do recall her mentioning her fiction when we met in London a couple of years ago; I hope that's going well for her!

I can't blame ya for your concerns about Internet dating. There are definitely weirdos out there! Lots of good people, too, but...definitely lots of weirdos as well!
