I am alive AND I have spawned!
It's been over two years, man. I don't even know how or where to start. Most people on my flist probably don't even remember me, and hey, man, no offense taken, because I probably don't remember you either! Several of you have sent me nudges over the years, and every time I saw one of those, I felt a weird combination of warm fuzziness and damning guilt. It's truly heartwarming to know you still think of me and maybe even miss me, but I felt terrible for not responding to your nudge, or at least letting you know that yes, I'm still alive. I've meant many times to come back to this journal, but the time and conditions weren't right. It's not worth relating the long (and fairly boring, actually) story of why.

But now they are, and so I return. And I have multiplied! The most important thing is that my husband and I welcomed our first child, Meghan, on March 22, 2008. I'm sure I will post lots more about her in the future, but suffice it to say that her smile is my morning sunshine, even when I'm groggy and crabby from the million times she woke me up at night. :)

I've been disconnected from HP fandom itself for a while, and that's probably a good thing. I can't say I regret having missed the craziness surrounding Deathly Hallows; I read the book once, but that was about it. I owe the whole series a reread, actually. Anyway, fandom sort of corrupted me for a while, and I think I lost track of the source of my love for the series. I think I want to get back into it now, but on my own terms. I started out in fandom at The Sugar Quill because I wanted to explore the characters and the world more through genfic, by looking at other characters' experiences and points of views and by imagining the stories that JKR didn't show us, but were lurking in her periphery. I also wanted to improve my writing, and The Sugar Quill had a mandatory beta process.

And then somehow it all (that is, fandom, or at least the majority of my degree of participation in it) turned into shipping and wank and slash, and I guess I'm just done with it all. I want to go back to my roots. I'll keep the crack, though. The crack is always good.

I didn't stop writing, though. RPGs are actually a great way to explore characterization, learn from others' writing, and practice quick replies to prompts. And mine is multifandom, so it's been fun getting exposed to other canons, working with crossovers, and, most importantly, promulgating the crack. :)

Anyway, so here I am. Now that I'm a stay-at-home mom (and STILL working on finishing up that damn grad degree!), I intend to use some of that time to return to fandom -- and to journaling in general; I've missed it. It's hard with a demanding four-and-a-half-month-old, but there is time now that she actually naps on her own in the crib (as opposed to only on my lap!).

I won't be offended if my journal ain't your cup of tea anymore, but for those of you who stick around, I'm looking forward to getting to know each other again. I really have missed you. :)

Yay! I am SO glad to see you back -- and I am very much looking forward to seeing your baby-related things! My friend Adrienne just had a kidlet and I am totally swept up in baby mania :D I totally squeed when I saw your announcement on Facebook, too :)

If you have any questions about what you've "missed" in fandom, let me know, LOL. My answer is equal parts "not much" and "a hell of a lot" <3

Heeeeeeyyyyy! :D And how are you? I hope you landed a kickass job at some point. I ought to check your Facebook -- another place that I need to catch up on. >> If you're ever in the DC area, you're welcome to visit us. I've got a comfy guest room. :)

Heh, I think I'd enjoy hearing a secondhand account of fandom craziness -- like "The Fallout of Deathly Hallows in Fifteen Minutes." FYI, my cell phone number's still the same, and you're always welcome to call.

Actually, my job prospects have kind of sucked! Don't get me started. Just left a job and am searching for another. It's pretty lame! (if you know of anyone hiring in Boston... LOL)

I can totally catch you up on things via email -- I use nqenglish@gmail.com generally, though I still check all my other emails (what, like, six of them? lol). Probably the biggest thing for me is that I now mod hd_holidays and I'm the programing co-chair for Azkatraz 2009 (con in San Francisco!). Lots of backstory there :)

I have a new phone, so I may not have your number anymore, but I can get it over email, surely :D

Aw, man, that's crap about the job, but yay, you're still in Boston? Woohoo! I say this because we're planning to head up there sometime in the fall. It might be our first trip with the little one, but we're determined to make it back up there. I went over New Year's, and damn, I miss the place. It'll be great to see you, if you're around and have time!

Is Akatraz the 2009 version of Lumos?

I shall email you my phone number!
