Crackalicious!
hogwarts_hocus: The only place you'll ever see Homsar and Stephen Colbert have a discussion about politics--let alone any discusson at all!

You win.

Haha, thanks, although I think the credit really goes to whoever is playing Stephen Colbert. I just get to make random shit up. The person manipulating Colbert's gotta try to make sense of it! I give him/her major props for trying to carry on a decent conversation with frickin' Homsar!!!

I don't know his canon, but now that I look at his comments more closely -- the thread is absolutely hilarious.

Also, now you have me hooked, hi. I can't resist a good RP. *sheepish*

Stephen Colbert? He got his start on The Daily Show, where he (as far as I know--as much as I love that show, I haven't seen a whole lot of it) sort of plays a reporter who's very very pro-Republican (but exposes Republican stupidities through his fervency). He's got his own show now, The Colbert Report, and he recently made a huge splash by giving a speech that completely blasted the hell out of Bush at the White House Correspondents Dinner. If you're interested, you can see the transcript here, and there's a link to the video there as well. To give you an example, here's something Colbert said at the beginning of the speech:

Wow, wow, what an honor. The White House correspondents' dinner. To just sit here, at the same table with my hero, George W. Bush, to be this close to the man. I feel like I'm dreaming. Somebody pinch me. You know what? I'm a pretty sound sleeper -- that may not be enough. Somebody shoot me in the face. Is he really not here tonight? The one guy who could have helped.

Hehe.

Oh, and hogwarts_hocus is &hearts . You thinking of coming on board?

Ooh, awesome. A friend of mine actually quoted him last night, I think. XD I was wondering why he sounded so familiar.

Have a sorting application all typed up, actually, ready for posting after my last exam today. I spent forever formatting it, and by that comment, you'll probably know who I am once I post it. It'll be difficult to miss. >__>

Excellent! I shall definitely look for it! You have more restraint than I do. I have an overdue paper that I got an extension on, and yet I couldn't resist app'ing Homsar when I've already got another character (Sirius) there in the first place. I have ZERO self-control!

Whoever is playing Steven Colbert is now one of my favourite people ever.

I know! The RPG itself is brilliantly crackheaded, but Stephen Colbert has been an awesome, awesome addition to it. I'm sorry I missed his Sorting. I'm going to have to go back and read the old post. It's here, in case you're interested. I heard it was hilarious.

I worship the Colbert icon they have! And Colbert! That is awesome in-character bantering!
Miss Sophia: Voldemort is Bush! Aaah!miss_sophia on May 9th, 2006 05:59 pm (UTC)
He's hilarious! I can't believe he's been chatting up freakin' Homsar! Pure crack!

In case you want to see his Sorting, it's here. Sadly, my other character missed it, but I heard it was a good one.
Melisus the Weemelisus on May 9th, 2006 06:15 pm (UTC)
Oh that is the best application ever! I'd love to see his reaction if he ever saw it (since I'm going to assume he's at least a bit of an HP fan... well, he knows it enough to make references to it). Aww, Stephen Colbert... he was always my favourite Daily Show correspondent.
Miss Sophia: Voldemort is Bush! Aaah!miss_sophia on May 9th, 2006 06:19 pm (UTC)
I really need to watch his show (and The Daily Show). I know they're comedy gold, but for some reason I've rarely tuned in.
Melisus the Weemelisus on May 9th, 2006 06:23 pm (UTC)
I watch them nightly and have for the past couple years. I've no idea how I discovered Jon Stewart but he's awesome. I will shamefully admit that their shows are my only source of American news.

Stephen Colbert takes some getting used to. Sometimes I can't stand his character but... yeah, the application on hogwarts_hocus is a rather accurate representation of his logic and the layout of his show.
Miss Sophia: Voldemort is Bush! Aaah!miss_sophia on May 9th, 2006 06:26 pm (UTC)
I saw the White House Correspondents Dinner video and thought it was an absolute riot. And hey, I think a helluva lotta people get their news from TDS. The fact is, people don't want just news anymore. They want to be entertained while receiving it. They want value-added commentary. Part of the master's I'm finishing up right now is in communication, and we've discussed this issue a number of times. I think it's fascinating.
Melisus the Weemelisus on May 9th, 2006 06:31 pm (UTC)
Yeah, that speech was funny and made even more so by the fact that no one was really sure if the Bush Administration had hired him to do his character or not so the reaction was... quite interesting!

As for the thing about news, you bring up a very good and true point. I think also that out of all the news outlets, satyrical shows can be trusted to give you most of the straight facts because they don't have any particular bias - they aim to make fun of everyone.
Miss Sophia: Voldemort is Bush! Aaah!miss_sophia on May 9th, 2006 06:35 pm (UTC)
From now on, I bet the White House event planning people are going to be far more careful about the contracts they write up with their invited guests! I'm shocked at their stupidity of not realizing that he would make the speech in character. I'm most surprised that they invited him in the first place. This wasn't a roasting event, after all (although that's what it turned into)!

That's an interesting observation--that satirical shows are the most trustworthy. Now I'm miffed my classes are all over, because I would have loved to bring that up for discussion.

::gasps for breath:: Lordy lou, this is the best introduction to anything I've ever seen. Hurrah for the jenga jam! Enjoy that metaphor, by the way, none of your grandchildren will know what hardwood is.

*swoons*

hogwarts_hocus is THE BEST. You can do only two characters from the same fandom, so I'm thinking about applying as Strong Sad at some point. Someone once app'ed as Strong Bad, but pulled out or something, because the app's been deleted. *hint hint*

That is beautiful.
